Copal

COLOMBIAN AMBER (COPAL): Copal or “Young Amber,” is a natural resin from the same origin as Amber; recognized as one of the most beautiful organic gems.

Copal is the fossilized resin of ancient trees, a natural procedure of polymerization of the organic compounds occur and this converts the resin into a transparent and crystal like gem. While the tree suppurates resin and it remains in its fluid state, insects and plants are trapped inside, fossilizing them for millions, thousands or at least, hundreds of years.

If not altered, we can appreciate that the color varies according to its origin and age; it is usually clearer than Amber. Copal has the same inclusions as Amber and because of its exotic beauty, it has become increasingly special and attractive.
